Eastleach our home in the Cotswolds countryside

EASTLEACH ROGATION SUNDAY 22nd April 2018

What better way to start the day than by coming to our village church and finishing up at village pub at opening time?

The word “Rogation” comes from the Latin verb rogare meaning “to ask”, and every year on this Sunday we gather as a rural community to ask for God’s blessing on our crops, our animals and our gardens, something which villages have been doing for very many years.

We start inside the church with a short, very informal service in which the words and cheerful hymns all have a rural theme ( 22nd April 2018 -11am ) .

Then outside, where all the prayers are read by people who live in the village. First by the willow tree; then Keble Bridge to bless the water; next by a garden and finally outside The Vic where the prayer is followed by a rousing rendition of the harvest hymn “We Plough the Fields and Scatter” and a Blessing.

Then inside the Vic!

We hope that you will join us in celebrating our life in this wonderful place – even if it’s just for the last part!

And please make a note of our very special Village  Service on 24th June at 11am which is followed by refreshments in the churchyard.
