Eastleach Village Quiz
Friday April 22nd 2016
The Village Hall was packed. 67 people sitting at 11 tables. The intelligentsia of Eastleach, Fyfield, Southrop and Filkins. Never mind the weird team names, they knew what they had to do.
The atmosphere was electric. Geography, Sport, History, Food and Drink, Shakespeare, Nature, Entertainment-where to play their joker?
Who were those 20 famous people in the table picture quiz? Who could decipher the dastardly dingbats?
They bought raffle tickets by the dozen.
Served by Steve and Vince, bartenders extraordinaires, they drank Bordeaux (generously donated by Simon), sundry other bottles of red wine, Down Ampney white wine (organised by Rachel Ponting), assorted ales and elderflower cordial (donated by Merry).
After 4 rounds they ate copiously of meat and vegetarian chilli (cooked by Ann and served by ladies of the Village Hall Committee), followed by delicious tray-bakes cooked by the committee.
The question-master struggled to control the enthusiasm as the quiz reached its climax.
At the end, the raffle tickets were drawn by Jess and Ayana. The raffle prizes were magnificent, especially the 3 mini hampers of wine, honey and crackers, compiled and decorated by Rachel Jakeman and Rachel Ponting.
The quiz had joint winners. Congratulations to them both…and to the winners of the wooden spoon.
The net profit was a stupendous £762.53, including generous donations from some who could not attend.
The bulk of the sum will be spent on refitting the children’s playground, after a donation to a local charity.
The communal spirit of Eastleach is obviously very much alive and kicking!!
So a big thank you……..
