Banking Scams in the Cotswolds

We have been made aware recently that a number of resident have been contact via their home telephones, from people claiming to be an officer from various Police departments, including New Scotland Yard serious fraud squad.

The caller goes on to say that the local bank is under investigation and they require their help to solve the case, requesting that the person attends their bank and withdraws a sum of money (on the 2 previous occasions £6000)

Once this has been completed they call back and ask for a random selection of serial numbers from the withdrawn notes to be read out, claiming that those are fraudulent or monitored notes.

The caller then goes on to request that the money is wrapped up and tells the resident that they have arranged for a courier to come and collect the package, which happens later that day.

We wish to remind all members and ask for this message to be passed out, that under no circumstance will either the Police or any Bank, contact any person/customer and ask them to remove money from an account.

Any call received asking you to carry out such a task, should instantly be considered a scam and the call terminated.
